Introduction

Dr Urs Burki, a renowned specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, was not only a highly accomplished cosmetic surgeon with a refined sense of aesthetics. Among his international clientele, he was equally admired and valued for his humanity. The empathy he showed towards his patients stemmed from a sincere desire to serve beauty unconditionally through his profession, thereby bringing happiness and joy to those who entrusted themselves to his care.

To honour the will of her late husband and to keep his name alive in fields that were dear to him, Rosmarie Burki-Weibel initiated the first charitable projects shortly after his death (10 February 2017). Seven undertakings realised to date are outlined below. Anecdotally, several of Urs Burki’s most cherished personal objects are also mentioned — items that found a new life after his passing.

“Motivated by the suffering I have endured, I decided some years ago to share much of what I have earned through willingness to sacrifice with the poor and those in need — people who bear a heavy and undeserved fate in this life.”

— Urs Burki, 2015 (excerpt from a letter to his brothers)
